Many followers of modern worship will know that the Dallas-based mega-church Gateway have in Kari Jobe a particularly powerful vocalist and worship leader and she is featured on the lovely "Let The Heavens Open". Producers Walker Beach, Josh Alltop and Miguel Noyola have captured the spirit of live performance but maintained a high quality sound. The lively opening track "Higher Than The Sky" is typical of the upbeat numbers, and there are many of those. Thomas Miller leads "Undone (We Cry Out)" which starts quietly, builds strongly and fades to a spiritual calmness. . . and it works. Rita Springer leads a soulful "You Never Change" that makes you wish you were there on the night. A matching DVD is available separately for those who would like a more immersive experience. All that being said, I would like to have heard something to make the album stand out more from similar offerings - this market is quite crowded. Yet I don't doubt that this album could see the Spirit moving people. And I liked Pastor Thomas Miller's message on the sleeve - "When our worship and praise go up, walls come crashing down."
