Here is a fine new release from veteran Glenn Garrett, who has achieved a lot in his decades on the Christian music scene. As his bio states, this is a CD of intercession warfare and worship, and powerful stuff it is even judging by the lyrics alone. Alongside producing, Garrett sings and plays grand piano and keys, occasionally adding a touch of acoustic guitar to the mix as well as surrounding himself with a fine band. The vocal and instrumental style, like the thematic consistency, is very much neo-'80s prog rock, with Garrett's layered synths filling out the sound, but it is by no means anodyne. The touch of real piano is effective, as is the plentiful guitar work. Most striking though is the undergirding theme of fiery intercession, moving from the fiery trials of the opener through the later "War Zone" to the prayer for God to "Breathe Fire On Me". There is much reference to the trials of life, and the sung prayer "Can You Hear Me?" is followed by God's response in the poignantly understated song "Do You Remember When?" Garrett delivers the songs with clear passion and carefully articulated words emphasizing their sincerity, without overdoing the emotional intensity. An album well worth searching out.
