As has been observed before, the prophetic worship music of Lincoln-based Godfrey Birtill is something of an acquired taste. This latest set, recorded live in Britain's Black Country, is another intriguing mix of self-penned songs suitable for congregational worship and retro rock'n'roll-flavoured tracks like "Bibbidy Bobbidy" that more exuberant church-goers will want to sing and jive to. The melodies are simple enough and you can hear the experience that Godfrey has gained from years of playing through the UK leading worship and preaching to many gatherings. From this side of his ministry he also then leads Glory In The Pub events bringing the Gospel to the public in environments outside of the standard church. It is this combination that you can hear the vibrant and energetic joy that seems to come naturally to these songs. 'Yea' is packed to the brim with 14 new songs and fresh versions of "Outrageous Grace" and "Great Grace (Just One Touch)". Mr Birtill may not be your particular cup of tea (or pint of bitter) but there's no denying that he continues to be one of the most original communicators in the whole British Church.
