This free mixtape is a deeply personal release, with many of the songs ("My Story", "Looking Out The Window II") inspired by the MOBO award winning rapper's personal experiences. After a fast paced and attention-grabbing one minute 31 second introduction, it's slightly disappointing that the album immediately slows to ballads. But by the time the dance fuelled "I'm Blessed" rolls around, Guvna is on top form. There's a perfect balance between unashamedly gospel-influenced lyrics and Guvna's unique humour. "Let You Know" is dedicated to Guvna's close friends and family while "Sugar Coat" sees the 22 year old "rapping for the Lord" in between a Caribbean-styled chorus. "A Little Love" is a playful tune where the rapper encourages the listener to "bust a little smile at a stranger.not too much though 'cause they might get the wrong idea." Sitting in-between some excellent up-tempo songs sits "Kofi", a tragic story about Guvna's friend who died at just 19 years old. There's plenty of collaborations throughout 'Scrapbook', including some outstanding vocal performances by Michaela The Poet and Miss Tai. All in all, this is an excellent release filled with great beats and a mixture of thought provoking and fun filled lyrics.
