It's a decade since Harold Rayford released a CD. During that time, he's had plenty to keep himself out of mischief - he became a pastor. But now this new release brings a CD of all-new material, along with a bonus disc compiling some of his older material. It's a great way to catch up on his music. Not that the style has greatly changed. We're firmly in instrumental smooth jazz territory here, albeit with soulful influences. So the musicianship is exemplary and on occasion dazzling as Rayford alternates between alto and soprano sax. Some is so smooth, it could be the soundtrack used by a major corporation when your call is put on hold. But on other occasions Rayford stops you and insists you listen closely. Recommended for fans of Kirk Whalum, and for anyone who wishes Kenny G were a soul man.
