Helmut once sang with Damaris' Joy who had an album out here through Kingsway/Edge a few years back and now the German singer returns with an incisive soul-tinged set which has plenty of Level 42-like bass lines and a nice turn of acerbic wit. I particularly liked "Strange People' gently digging at odd evangelicals looking for demons in backward masking while the stark "A Thousand Times" is a heartening song about the miracle of faith sung simply over a solitary piano. One of the most memorable vocal performances is on "Prince Of Peace" when three sisters step up to the mike for a Germanic 'black gospel' whoop up. An album worth searching out.
