If you've read Cross Rhythms' article you'll know that IGWT is an informal aggregation put together by Superhero's frontman Tim Cheshire with a particular aim of taking modern worship music away from its simplistic declarations of adoration into a more balanced theological viewpoint. Particularly Tim believes worship music should reflect The Great Commission and the need to declare God's passionate desire to save mankind. Hence this album. The opener "Immanuel" starts simply with some elegant piano before building and building while the mid-tempo "Passion For The Lost" has some unexpected banjo from Andrew John McAdam and a lyric which really sums up the album's full-on commitment to mission ("Here I am use me Lord/I know you're sending me Lord/No more waiting/This is the time of your calling/So we are stepping out of the line/With our hands in the air shouting, yes/Because we know/That now is the time/We know it's harvest time"). Musically, there's plenty of eclecticism demonstrated here with the folk anthem "Grateful Music" driven by banjo and fiddle; the laid back and haunting "Salvation's Voice"; and the wistfully reflective "There's No Place". Tim is an expressive singer and a top rate songwriter who has put together a diverse and yet cohesive album which succeeds perfectly in avoiding the modern worship stereotypes. 'In God We Trust' is a project that deserves to be widely heard.
