Reviewed by Paul Keeble Indrek Patte is an Estonian musician, songwriter, recording engineer and producer with a long and distinguished career stretching back to the '70s. In 2004 he became a Christian and 'Thank And Share' is his second album of songs that reflect his faith. From the opening keyboard sequence of "Light Ship" it is clear this is a quality product - well played, produced and recorded. "Light Ship" drives along on a tight rhythm section with intricate arrangements, some nice syncopated sections and soaring guitar solos, reminiscent of Iona's Dave Bainbridge. "Dance In Livland" takes the tempo down a touch, opening with a lovely acoustic guitar section, before building to a full band with some keyboard work Rick Wakeman would be proud of. This is the template for most of the eight songs ("In Your Arms" is a shorter acoustic song with guitar, percussion and flute) but there is variety and creativity and something interesting going on throughout. Human drums and percussion are only credited on three songs, so if the rest is programmed, it is very good. By contrast, there are six guitarist credits and it shows in lovely electric rhythm and soloing and acoustic guitar-work throughout. Indrek's vocal is strong and in places, such as "The Servant Soul", not unlike Jon Anderson. Penultimate track "In Memories" is an instrumental leading to closer "Share", a wonderful slab of prog clocking in at just under 13 minutes. Indrek is clearly influenced by the likes of Yes, Genesis and Iona but works those influences together with a talent for good melodies to make an original sounding whole. If there is a weakness it is in the English lyrics which, though clearly Christian, are not in his first language (this also sometimes shows in his English pronunciation - but then my Estonian is non-existent!). Maybe a co-writer or editor for the words next time? That apart, this album is superb.
