As part of a series of six instrumental albums created to bring "comfort, refreshment and a sense of peace and calm", the 'Instruments Of...' concept initially seems like a good opportunity to offer a Christian perspective on the mood music albums available today. These offerings could have been so much more effective had producers Don Moen and Chris Thomason not complemented the lush orchestral arrangements with the plastic synthesized sounds of '80s muzak. Containing songs by the likes of Lynn Deshazo, Helena Barrington and Don himself, good points include some skillful orchestration and on the upbeat numbers a jabbing horn section. However, these highlights are hindered by scrappy fadeouts and the inclusion of the ill-fitting keyboard sounds.
