Veteran R&B gospel man Moss has issued a number of quality releases over his career and it's therefore no surprise that a 'best of' compilation saw the light of day back in 2014. If this collection is anything to go by, Moss has maintained a fairly consistent musical approach over the years with funk-tinged urban R&B being his main mode for communicating the uplifting Christ-centred message of hope found within in his songs. Culled from four albums and presented in chronological order, the collection kicks off with the delightfully punchy "I Wanna Be" from 2004's 'The J Moss Project' before the likes of "Operator" and the slow burner "Rebuild" showcase the man's sizeable vocal talents and his standing as one of the top gospel vocalists of the modern age. Guest artists such as Hezekiah Walker, Karen Clark Sheard and Anthony Hamilton make the occasional cameo to add a touch of variety to this worthwhile taster for the J Moss back catalogue although the non-inclusion of the exemplary "Afraid" from the 'V2' release could be seen by some as something of a glaring omission.
