Jai Luci - who has released two albums previously as Jewell Lucien - is an actress and vocalist living in Nashville, Tennessee. Jai's classical vocal training is evident on this five track selection. The first track "Prelude" is a slightly odd swirly sci-fi affair that seems to be saying that this is a new stage in Jai's life and ministry and that "Access Is Granted" to the new music that really starts with the second track - an acoustic guitar intro'd pop track that is definitely the highlight of this EP. There is no doubting that Jai is in possession of a powerful set of pipes, and runs up and down scales with precision and passion as she sings of the faithfulness of God. Described on her own website as "alternative jazzy-soul" there's more of pop and R&B here which build on an obvious gospel grounding. At times the production seems to allow Jai to sound somewhat "screechy" despite her obvious talent and control, and on the final song "Put 'em To Flight" there is a strange, slightly heavy rock morass of sound in the background over which Jai sings, but it doesn't always sound like the two parts are meant to go together. Overall, despite Jai's obvious talent, this is a rather disappointing release.
