Various artist albums of any variety seldom get a particularly enthusiastic CR review, let alone the 10 square raveroonie this one's landed. And indeed the concept - allowing a couple of nifty remixers loose amid choice cuts from Essential Records' big three, namely Jars Of Clay, Imagine This and Eric Champion, could have produced a not-rock-not-dance mess. In fact, thanks to the quality of the material - and tracks like "Flood" and "Liquid" by Jars Of Clay and the (underrated) "Munky Jump" by Imagine This are all superlative - plus the sensitivity and pop dance savvy of the remixes (step forward Keith "The Funky Hillbilly" Compton and Eric Champion) the effect is absolutely riveting. The absolute stone killer which as I write is number one in the UCB Cross Rhythms play list is "Flood (Savage Flavour Mix)" though there are several other remixes which will please more adventurous searchers of The Groove. There's a bonus too, tracks from Rhythm Of Creation and Hypersonic. A great album, for those who are tired of waiting for the new Jars album and those looking to see where CCM is heading in the millennium.
