The kind of release you normally get when successful bands want a rest from the clamorous demands for new songs and new albums but need to fulfil contractual obligations. For despite all the handsome packaging what you get here is an album of what sound like original demos and an album of live recordings, with most of the songs already well known to Jars fans. Dan Haseltine’s tremulous vocals are as haunting as ever. And several of the songs are top rate. But it’s doubtful if anyone other than hardcore JOC devotees will be rushing off to buy this. And if there is an announcement in a few months of a label change for one of Christendom’s biggest bands don’t be too surprised.
