One of the characteristics of quality hip-hop is mature lyrics and finely crafted rhymes and beats. London-based Jayess delivers this aplenty in this engaging and personal narrative that connects hip-hop devotees to the Word. 'Genesis Snapshots' starts off with a grimy edge on "I Was Just Like You" and "Who Is It" looking at who we represent and follow. Jayess rides the beats with skill coming on like a Biblical clarion on the brilliant "7even" which looks at the significance of "sevens" in the Bible. Similarly "Christology" identifies the appearances of Christ throughout the Old and New Testaments with adroit lyricism. Jayess takes on racism on "Colour Blind" and challenges women not to give their bodies to just anyone on "Why Do It". Tracks vary from the deliciously smooth "Good Love" through to the stripped back title track. We end with "Bonus" where a host of artists from London's hip-hop underground drop some verses to remind us we all need Christ. A brilliant project.
