Leaving aside a grizzly paean to the American flag (“My Country”), this is a beautifully selected set of songs with some tremendous guests (Rhonda Vincent and bluegrass giants Bobby & Sonny Osborne) and some glorious songs (Rebecca Peck’s and Jamie Harvill’s reminder of Ruth’s determination to go wherever Naomi should choose to go and Michael Puryear’s and John Jarrard’s clever metaphor that Jesus is “The Missing Piece”). Some may find Sheri Easter’s lyrics a tad too sentimental but none can doubt her soulful way with a poignant melody. If only they’d kept their patriotism on hold and dumped “My Country”, the Easters could have made a classic country album.
