A true demo tape, recorded in Jez's kitchen on a trusty four track. Six songs all written and played by Jez Bayes and they seem to cover all the categories available to the humble reviewer. From songs about the world, "Dollar", through instruction/exhortation, "Trial", to praise and worship, "Man", with a bit of evangelism thrown in for good measure. Generally, the songs are well thought out and performed, thoroughly guitar based with a sort of quieter "alternative rock" feel, a touch like REM at times or comparable to some sort of early 80s alternative bands like The Cure or (dare I say it) Joy Division but with a better singer. Unsurprisingly, the sound quality is a bit like a recording done in a kitchen but it doesn't really hide the impact of a worthwhile set of songs. Out of the six here the quieter ones impressed me most with the louder numbers perhaps needing a more solid sound (perhaps benefiting from some drums).
