The intended audience for ‘Extreme Worship’ are “tweenagers” (10-13 year olds) and pretty impressive it is too. I’ve always found Jim’s kids albums a tad unconvincing but here his singing seems to have improved considerably while his long term alliance with studio whiz Mark Edwards continues here with spectacular results. Listen to the pulsating dance rhythms Mark adds to “Colours Of Salvation” and his remix of “Children Of The Cross” is attention grabbing. Plus those excellent London rappers Overflow add plenty of street sounds (I particularly liked their contribution to “Breakout”). Jim describes his album as “an eclectic mixture of funky contemporary tunes but within the mix lies a heart-rending ballad ‘All Of This’ and of course the inevitable Spicy Camels intervene at the end of the album.” Even his brave transformation of the Savage Garden classic “Truly Madly Deeply” works surprisingly well. He might have left Kingsway but this is surely Jim’s best ever album.
