I've got to confess I loved his previous album 'Days Of Noah' and Vogels' new album is rock in the same way that Sting is rock. Like Sting, Vogels creates art with well crafted songs. This has plenty of imaginative production and arrangements and it's spiritually challenging. Best known as the writer of the worship song "Victory Chat", a new version of which is included here, Vogels is definitely an iconoclast hence the title of the album. He isn't scared to write songs that hold believers and society to account like "10 Simple Rules" and yet can also write songs that are emotional and personal that tug at the heart like "Tiffany No" and "Number One In My Eyes". Mix in an assortment of worshipful songs and instrumentals and employ a few ethnic sounds and the result is a very special eclectic album. We need more writers like Vogels who are prepared to be uncompromising. 'Melting Statues' is a fine album.
