Joe's previous album 'Next To You' reflected his own life's journey which has been characterised by struggle and pain. In the midst of it all, there was something prophetic about the songs which reflected God's loving heart towards his people and that spirit continues here. These are songs that recognise that life really is hard and beneath the happy clappiness of much modem faith, many people struggle. These songs are a dose of reality which acts as healing balm. Veteran Joe watchers will recognise some of these from the early '80s but to be honest Joe is such a great writer it would be a tragedy if these weren't committed permanently to the eternal spinning of CD. Producer Chris Eaton has done a great job producing and arranging these giving them a fresh sheen and bringing in the wonderfully named guitarist Morph to add .some power. The title song is perfect pop and "Until Our Hearts Beat As One" has a compelling dreamlike quality. The song "Father" is a cry from the heart for help in the middle of confusion which is then answered by a sweep of songs. "Don't Give Up The Fight" is a prophetic reassurance from God and the stunning "I Still Believe In You" presents the powerful truth that no matter what we go through. God doesn't write us off. In between a Terl Bryant driven Celtic affirmation "Stand Your Ground" acts as a strong encouragement. There is so much good music here. Morph is finally unshackled and let loose on another King chestnut, the blistering short and snappy "Thief In The Night". I had fun digging out a really old tape and seeing how Joe had rewritten the song! (Joe. I'm open to cash gifts to keep that tape under wraps!) The allegorical "Justin Brown" country turn shows Joe's Storytelling talent; there's more percussive power from Terl on the atmospheric "Let My Power Come Down" before things end on the up note of the praise song "Jesus You Are So Mighty". Overall, more up than the previous outing but just as powerful a recording from one of Britain's great underrated songwriting talents.
