John (E) Wright is a singer/songwriter based in Wiltshire. His influences include Bob Dylan, Beatles and Jeff Lynn which is very evident here especially in his vocal delivery. This collection of eight songs is based on a stripped back musical bed of acoustic guitar and vocals multi-tracked by Pete Lamb. This volume focuses on John's faith. The opener "Willing To Worship" sets the stall out stating "He wants to worship. . . not to come to the theatre"! Other songs are more subtle, "Levelling" is a catchy song of testimony while the no frills "The Best" grows with repeated listening as he sings about the name of Jesus. This is mostly an enjoyable listen, but the lack of variation in instrumentation opens up the artist to being scrutinised by the listener, and sadly John's voice doesn't always stand up to such a stripped down musical environment.
