John is becoming a veteran of the Yorkshire church music scene having been recording since 1997 with his excellent backing band the PKS - their talent shines through the track "Roots". Contained here are 12 tracks including eight covers. John has an amazing talent of speaking to the heart with gentle words we can all relate to. Covers include "You've Got A Friend" (Carole King), "I Didn't Speak Up" (Garth Hewitt) and "He Never Said" (Martyn Joseph). These covers are great songs but they draw the listener to make comparisons to the original which is not helpful. Also, I couldn't quite understand why "You've Got A Friend" sung by John's daughter Catherine Froud is on this release as well as her own album. Overall though this is thoroughly recommended, particularly the track "I Cry Alone", a fine composition by John which shows him to be up there with the best singer/songwriters.

Thanks. A couple of notes: There are four covers and eight originals and "Late Nights...." predates Cath's album by some three years and this is our original arrangement subsequently pared down for the "You've got a friend" album.
