I expected very little from this volume. Quickly published in 2010 and assembled from the vast amount of newspaper and magazine coverage Ms Boyle received after Britain's Got Talent had catapulted the ungainly spinster to international fame, it is in fact a useful record of the life and sudden success of Britain's most unexpected singing superstar. The opening chapters particularly are well written by John McShane (surely a pseudonym for a seasoned journo brought in to do a quick archive dip) and colourfully convey the shock felt by first a mass TV and then the international viral audience to this 40 something Scottish lady singing her note-perfect version of "I Dreamed A Dream". Unfortunately the impressive early chapters lose some of their impact with too many quotes from too many sources leading to a great deal of repetition. Also, for those looking for much spiritual insight into Susan's life will find only passing references to her Catholic faith here. But if you're a fan, this biography still makes an interesting read until such time as the lady gives more in depth interviews.
