Joi knows a thing or two about the music business, being a former member of the now disbanded '90s group Jade. 'Testimony And Praise' has a confident and inspirational vibe from the off. What is impressive is the maturity and confidence of the lyrics which on tracks like "House Divided" which tackles the complexities of church unity without pulling punches. The good news however that this is more than just sound theology with assured songwriting that in turn is insightful and inspirational. Joi has also lost none of the spark that made Jade worldwide stars and this offering is both sassy and funky in equal measure with songs like "Whole Again" becoming an instant classic with a unbelievably catchy hook, add to the mix silkily soulful ballads like the exquisitely woven "Dedicate" which shows a more soulful side developing to Joi's repertoire. This was a joy from start to finish and in 'Testimony And Praise' we have an album that delivers every listen.
