Milton Keynes-based singer/songwriter and worship leader Jon Kendall has released a four track EP of personal songs detailing his relationship with God. Very much a stripped-back and homely affair, the sole accompanying instrument to Kendall's strong vocal performance is his acoustic guitar and, whilst songs such as the contemplative and God-centred "Ode To Love" and "Father's Love" would undoubtedly be strengthened by additional instrumentation, it's heartening to see artists releasing homespun music when reams of studio time is presumably not an option. The inclusion of backing vocals from Kendall's wife Gemma on the title track and the delightfully moody "Take Me Away" - both of which benefit from strong melodies and some passionate and expertly-executed vocals - vary proceedings enough to make this an enjoyable enough initial outing from an artist with obvious talent.
