Five years after his last album 'Broken', Jonny Patton, a singer/songwriter from Northern Ireland and now the worship leader at St John's Church in Colchester, has recorded five tracks produced by Worship Central's Henry Marsden. The music swirls around him like a summer storm, crunching guitars, driving bass, pounding drums and a panoply of backing vocals sometimes threatening to drown Jonny's pleasing but not particularly powerful voice. The title track sets the scene, after a few solitary piano notes the backing leaps in, gaining in strength and dominance as Jonny's voice proclaims "Let your glory shine around" to a backdrop of a wall of sound. In "Light Streams" a lighter, gentle touch to the backing allows his smooth, clearly articulated vocal greater clarity so the clear message of the song isn't lost in the mix. The EP bravely attempts to move praise and worship on to a newer place, but maybe there is just too much going on in the mix to show off the songs in the best light.
