Justin Unger was formerly one half of Across The Sky. After that duo disbanded, Justin relocated with his family from Nashville to Arizona to lead worship at Heights Church. 'Disengage' is his first solo release and is a product of this move and new ministry. The title track is based on Luke 9, "The irony of the Christian life: The more you disengage from yourself, the more you find yourself in Christ." "Take Me Back" longs for God's presence when we've lost our way: "I can no longer look your way and fake this smile./I'm afraid I've run ahead too far." The last two tracks, "In You Alone" and "Sing To The King" are live recordings of Justin and band in what sounds like a more comfortable worship setting, and stand out from the rest of the album for it. The 13-track set is strong lyrically, but musically is a bit samey and middle of the road. That's not to say it's bad, as all of the tracks are well produced and recorded, there's just not much variation over the course of the album, apart from the two live tracks.
