This is the record label debut for the Nashville-based band who have been compared to groups like Concrete Blonde and Stone Temple Pilots though for my money Evanescence sprang to mind when I first heard this. That's a good association, because I love that band's 2003 album 'Fallen'. Hannah Stacy's voice is almost as good as Amy Lee's - versatile, expressive and passionate and with good diction. The musicians in the band and the string arrangements are right on the mark. The sound is grungy but seriously musical with it. And hooray too for lyricists who can use Scripture as a springboard, giving the references, but producing words that require engagement and invite different styles of musical interpretation at different points. The production is about right on treble, but needs more bass for a better balance. But I like it, oh yes, I like it. The word Kainos comes from the Greek - of higher excellence indeed.
