Into the under-populated category of 'modern bands releasing '70s/'80s musically inspired worship', Karis release their second album. Based in Worcester, the Greek named band's (meaning Grace) latest collection is once again produced by Colin Owen. The 11 tracks contained here certainly fit the description, sounding like early ABBA in many places, capturing the simpler, hook-ladened, synth/guitar pop of the times. There are some great moments here. The opener "Consider" features some tasty synthesizer moments, while "Lilies Of The Field" has a an infectious, bouncy feel to it and sounds like a '70s hit that never was. The flares and platform shoes musical ethos of 'Corner Of His Robe' pauses for a beautiful ballad, "Three Nails". That excellent song, at least, would fit into any decade in the last 50 years. I enjoyed this release but I do wonder if, having found an unusual musical niche for themselves, there is currently a big enough audience for '70s/'80s flavoured worship music.
