Having released her debut 'Out Of The Ashes' in 2015, Surrey-based singer, songwriter and pianist Kat takes a risk with this new set. Several tracks were recorded live in the studio which is impressive for any artist to undertake let alone a part-time singer/songwriter and primary school teacher. Kat rises to the challenge well though the somewhat skeletal arrangements - voice, piano, guitar - mean that when the tracked recordings kick in they almost sound like a different artist. Kat is most affecting on slow, melodic ballads and the live opener "Be Still" and the tracked "I Have a Hope" work best though on the latter I'm not sure the male BVs add anything to the song. Also I'm not sure that producer/engineers Jon Merriman and Bill Sherington were wise in giving a reggae rhythm to "Grace Of God". Lyrically, all the 11 Mills compositions speak biblical truth without bringing in much which is strikingly fresh or poetic. So, although 'Voice Of Truth' is competent enough it doesn't sound like an album likely to catapult her to bigger things.
