Some outstanding gospel blues on this independent CD from Mississippi. Brothers Bo and Dabo have served their time in the Christian music world, having been on the scene since the heady days of Jesus music artists like Larry Norman and The Sheep. These days they lead a church in Nashville and for this CD have drawn on the talents of fellow ministry bluesmen from the area. The album takes a bit of a tour around the blues, opening with some blistering lead guitar from Pastor Ron Binkley on "All You Gotta Do" and taking in a spot of country blues, a few rocking shuffle beat tracks and an inspiring slow blues called "The Martyr's Voice". These guys are not great singers, but then the blues tradition is not always built on technically perfect vocals, it's more about the feel and the spirit and I think the guys have genuinely 'lived' the blues - it shows. There is a strong evangelistic feel to the whole album and it even closes with an appeal. Timeless stuff.
