This solo album from the former member of The Cause and Souls Under The Altar shows clearly that he's been influenced by working with Steve Taylor, though the lyrics don't have the same incisive, hard edge of original Steve Taylor tracks. Instead, the songs contain more narrative, giving stories of faith experiences and social comment. Add to this a fine backing band and thoughtful variety of musical styles, including reggae and ska, and this album becomes one to take notice of and be entertained by. It was appropriate that my first hearing was driving to work on a Monday morning, as the album opens with several references to the trials of walking with the Lord. On "Monkey's Uncle", Kent tackles evolution head-on and the song "ACLU" ridicules the effect of political correctness taking Christian teaching out of our lives.
