The annual album from the Keswick Convention offers the familiar format of straight renditions of popular choruses and hymns to a backdrop of congregational singing and backing band. John Risbridger and Geoff Baker lead the worship with songs by Kendrick ("Who Can Sound The Depths Of Sorrow", "Such Love"), Fellingham ("God Of Glory", "At Your Feet We Fall") and Martin Smith ("Shout To The North".) The simple instrumentation emphasises the poignancy of the lyrics but a bad drum mix, lets down Paul Evans' obvious talent and weakens the production. Hymns such as "Breathe On Me, Breath Of God" and "I Will Sing The Wondrous Story" sit nicely with the more modern numbers but would have been more effective and powerful had they been augmented by more than just a piano - the band are certainly more than capable! From this recording, it is clear that these people have gathered to make a joyful noise to the Lord to the best of their abilities and, at the end of the day, that is what counts. Pity that ICC didn't let us know anything whatsoever about the convention in the liner notes.
