Slowly but surely the Keswick Convention, in many ways the spearhead of evangelicalism in Britain, is finding new life and vigour in its worship. Once often giving a platform to speakers implacably opposed to the charismatic movement it has hearteningly muted such voices, emphasised the doctrines and experiences that join all Christians rather than those things that separate us, and allowed the renewal to infiltrate its worship programme once ossifying through the over veneration of ancient hymns. There are still plenty of Wesley and Watts sung lustily here. But along the best of the old, there's quite a bit of the new, at least as far as Graham Kendrick and Dave Fellingham. Still culturally a million miles from the alternative, but hearts overflowing with love for Jesus still come through as those massed voices, at times surprisingly like a well trained choir, boom out the anthems of praise.
