The debut release from this California-based author and singer/songwriter is really rather something special. With an overriding electronica feel to proceedings (imagine if you will a cross between Ultravox and Aqualung), Ott gently paints a unique and inherently skilful work of art that succeeds in reflecting the very nature of the Creator whilst offering up an album that is a cut above many other independent Christian releases. The overall theme of praise to God with just a hint of melancholy is perhaps best reflected in the singles "Firefly" and "The Fullness Of Joy" which are accessible enough to allow Ott's work to seep in the mainstream without sacrificing integrity. Elsewhere, the more upbeat and poppy "Iridescent" and "The Promises Of God" further reference Ott's faith and showcase the man's pleasing vocals and his considerable songwriting and production skills. Arguably at his best when in experimental mode, tracks like the ambient "Midnight In Paris In The Rain" and a brave stab at adapting a rather heavy sonnet by 17th century English poet John Donne in the title track see Ott willing to take artistic chances whilst the incredible "Hang Glider" - complete with Beatlesque loops and sound effects - has this talented artistic soaring in what is a hugely intriguing release.
