By now you might have read how great this album from the Seattle-based 10-man/woman collective is. 'Becoming Who We Are' has already received numerous accolades and its adventurous and eclectic approach to worship, a fine lead singer in Chad Gardner and plenty of creative touches in the production truly make this a standout. "Light After Darkness" with its memorable couplets ("Light after darkness/Dawn after loss/Strength after weakness/Crown after cross") draw the listener into a prayerful refrain "Give me the hope for tomorrow/Give me the peace for today." Equally strong is "Seek Your Kingdom" which over a hook-filled melody and some neat riffing from the horns is an engaging call to prayer. Dustin Kensrue's "Grace Alone" also gets an airing and is almost as good as the original while the eerie "Felix Culpa" which blends EDM, jazz and a meandering melody would probably defeat most worshipping congregations but is a beautifully executed slice of music. An album which will reward exploration for months and possibly years to come.
