Most Cross Rhythms readers will know Kristyna Myles' back story - how she was discovered busking, signed to a major label deal then released after only one album and how she's now gone on to make a successful career as an independent artist with music that is singer/songwriter fare with black gospel overtones. Here she makes a good fist of "A Change Is Gonna Come" (not the Sam Cooke song) and the funky "Drop Me A Line" with its prominent bass. All of the tracks maintain their reflection on everyday relationships such as the poppy "Halfway" about give and take and the '60s-esque "I Guess I'll Never Know" about seizing the moment. The smooth and breezy "Autumn" is one of the most memorable offerings with some lovely harmonies and lazy muted trumpet. However, although the lyrical astuteness and strong vocals shine through each song and the musicianship and production quality is of a high standard, I was left looking for a killer song to elevate this to the top ratings.
