One time member of the Caravans, Loleatta crossed over from gospel to R&B in '69 and went on to record a series of searing R&B records for Aware Records, most of which are now lovingly presented on this 23-song compilation. Give Loleatta a slow Southern soul ballad and she was one of the greats and a number of cuts here like "Cry To Me" and "Part Time Lover Full Time Fool" will thrill those who like their R&B deep and earthy. There's one gospel song here, an unsuccessful (sales wise) attempt to crossover with an Aretha-ish God song "H.E.L.P. M.E. M.Y. L.O.R.D.". I've no idea whether Loleatta retained her faith or whether she became another spiritual casualty of crossing over to R&B (and later disco) but R&B buffs in the know will acknowledge Loleatta's mightly vocal chops.
