"Firewater Revelation", featuring a compulsive funk-rock groove that sounds a little like INXS' "Need You Tonight", is a magnificent start to this five-song EP from the Montana-based songsmith. Next up there's an acoustic-driven "Good Enough". Its lyric about a disintegrating relationship is compelling - "You're taking me for a ride/But I'm doing all the driving/I can't do anything right/But that don't mean I'm not trying" - before the singer switches to falsetto and with world weary pathos sings "Let me know when it's good enough for you." The effect after those first two gems isn't quite sustained through the rest of this EP but 'West' is still a fine example of thoughtful songwriting craft and no little production skill.
