I've yet to catch up with NGM's touring pop music rendition of the life of Esther but judging from this perky soundtrack it should be fun. Many of the lead vocals here are taken by Esther herself (T-Girl's Tanya Wilson) and her excellent, expressive voice is able to handle perky pop rhythms, clubby dance and soaring ballads. "The Edict" with its pop techno groove is probably the least "musical" sounding song here while the billowing "For This Very Moment" is more in the Tim Rice vein. A mixed bag of songs then that work well enough outside the structure of the theatric presentation.
