If you know South Africa's M.I.C. only for their pumping pop dance music this is going to amaze you. Musically it reminded me of some of the 'unplugged' stuff so beloved of MTV in the early '90s, particularly the session Crowded House did. What's this? Track four is "Weather With You" by Messers Finn and Finn! Actually there is a lot more here than that - dc Talk influences amongst others, and although it is an EP rather than a full album I've had it playing auto-repeat since. The final track is Mr Redman's "I Will Offer" (which like me you may be singing on Sundays) - it is worship, but a million miles away from 'Production Line Praise Vol 57' et al. This set will no doubt disappoint dance buffs but if you like a rootsy acoustic vibe with some good 'rock' vocal harmonies then you'll not be disappointed. Finally it is worth pointing out that this album was recorded in six hours last August and as well as speaking volumes about a band who can do it without the overdubs it makes for a good 'band playing altogether' live feel. Best thing I've heard this year!
