South Africa's MIC have written some classic songs over the last 15 years and have moved effortlessly from dance to rock rap to hip-hop as they've chased a youth audience and, like Manchester's WWMT, were powerful evangelists always remaining relevant. On the farewell project the band remixed 10 songs from their vast catalogue. Inevitably, some of my personal favourites are missing, however, the 10 selected here undoubtedly deserve their place. Songs like "Catch Me", "Superhuman" and "I Am Yours" are all given a fresh treatment and to be honest, have never sounded better. One of the things I liked about them on previous albums was that they would take an old song and give it a makeover. This proves to me that a good song never dates. I have labelled this pop but dance or hip-hop classifications would do as well. As well as the inventive remixes the package also comes with a DVD disc which is a huge bonus. It contains no less than 50 MP3s of their best songs, a documentary (which documents personnel changes etc) and videos of a few songs. This makes the album value for money and well worth getting especially for long term fans. If you have never listened to MIC then it's your loss as within the utilitarian world of music for evangelism they had the same intuitive touch as The Tribe. Here is your last chance to get the history of a fantastic band who will be sadly missed. Such is the quality here that I have no reservations about awarding a 10 square rating.
