In South Africa they are a mainstream chart act and over here they've been making slow inroads with their creative and compelling pop dance music. The sleevenotes show that the band have gathered the songs on "Superhuman" to create the salvation story of an ordinary guy puzzling through the usual questions about life. With an eye to the mainstream the listener is slowly drawn in following the story through until they are introduced to God in the process. Cunning. Musically their rap'n'dance. samples and sense of fun come exploding out of the grooves of the CD. Their previous release. 'Stories From A Dry Land", was good but this one tops all of that! From the thunderous "Mr Frankenstein" with its "take the time" refrain through the Euro disco sound of "Eyes". "Science Fiction" and "Lollipop Man" to the groovy "Dance With Me", there's plenty of powerful dance pop to keep you happy. There's something to be said about the musical strength of an album which can hold back a song as brilliant as the title track until the end. It's brilliant! Elsewhere the band spread their musical wings adopting a rockier edge on "Coffee" whereas "Sooper Dooper" has a smattering of those early '80s techno sounds. As a bonus, there're alternative versions of two of their most popular songs. "Catch Me" gets a rock mix and there's an acoustic version of "The End". This latter tune brought back happy memories of seeing MIC perform an acoustic set at a barbecue which included an acoustic version of "Superhuman", the first time I'd heard the song. I was just musing on this fact when 15 minutes after the CD "officially" finished, a secret track came on - an acoustic version of that very song! Spooky! But like the album, just perfect!
