Y'know, when it comes to that mellow, smooth, or as Americans would say, "heartwarming" sound, our chums at Maranatha are top of the heap. Here's another helping of songs old and new, poured into your ears with unrivalled gentleness and finesse. Six vocalists comprise the Maranatha Singers and Walt Harrah maintains his reputation as an outstanding vocal arranger. Classy instrumentation includes smooth guitar work from Bob Somma, while good ole Tommy Coomes gives his usual lavish production care. The programme balances hymns, eg, "And Can It Be" and "The Church's One Foundation", with some fairly familiar choruses and includes the powerful spiritual "Were You There?". No, there's nothing unique to remark upon, no flashes of originality to report, just familiar material superbly arranged, performed and recorded.
