This is a strong album where Mark J pens most of the contents, but is also backed up by a host of others who collaborate to make a rich acoustic sound. It's hard to describe the overall feel of this CD due to its diversity. The more orthodox title track is a well crafted journey through a grim urban hell, yet this is interjected with a smooth, hope-filled soulish chorus that sits really well. “National Anthem” is a powerful battle cry for the hosts of holy hip-hop, featurin' some heavy beats and a hard vibe contrasted with serene choral hooks. Truth features large on the reggae laced “Right Revolution” that lilts its way into your head, makin' it nod - a lot. Love it. Mark even manages to flip a very cool slice of urban jazz in “It's A Shame”, overlaid with a heart felt plea from God, thought provoking stuff. Throughout the album Mark J makes references to black roots and issues (check out “A Slave’s Cry”) and draws in a dazzling variety of styles and hooks that make this offering a brilliantly produced and original gem. Quality.
