The title of course refers to the fact that Mr. Lowry is better known for his humour than for his straight singing, although he does have songwriting credits on some very well known and well loved items, one of the best being the Christmas song 'Mary Did You Know', and was once a member of the Gaither Vocal Band. There's a note on the back of the sleeve "Warning: this album contains no parodies. This album is for everyone who ever wished I'd just shut up and sing!" So what do we get? First track, Mark fails to sound completely unlike Russ Taff! (Hardly surprising, 'cos Russ and Tori wrote it). For the rest of the album, Mark warbles his way through a fairly routine selection of stuff, most of which is pretty much on the inspirational side, apart from an old Hank Williams 12 bar blues from 1950 'House Of Gold', and 'Farther On Down The Road', which has a sort of country vibe in a minor key. I've never been really convinced that Mark Lowry was a good comedian; some of his material is about as funny as an amputated foot - perhaps it's due to the British sense of humour being so totally different. Having listened to this album, I'm not really convinced that he can sing particularly well either.
