How we need Martyn Joseph. When the world's gone mad it is just as well he has built a space over the years where you can go and find a reflective place to think about it all and try to make some sense of the whole sorry and glorious mess. His trademark simple guitar and vocal is in evidence as are the usual themes - faith, questions, politics, love, anger. It's all here. Martyn's partnership with Stewart Henderson is still bearing beautiful fruit, full of poignancy and humanity. It feels quite a confident collection with Martyn able to rage against the injustice of war or the beauty of love without holding back. if ever he did. A sign of the confidence is a return to a fuller band sound on "Can't Breathe" or going all country on us when he covers Larry Norman's "Six Sixty Six". To my way of thinking this collection is just what's needed for those who know Martyn well but even more so for those who don't .yet.
