Martyn has been making music for more than two decades now and this latest offering is among the very best that he has produced. Here are 10 poignant songs which manage, as always, to marry his articulate lyrics to excellent music, performed with great skill by the writer himself. Helped by Phil Beer (from Show Of Hands), Nigel Hopkins, Ryan Aston and long-time collaborator Mike Haughton (on saxes), Martyn's own skilful guitar work creates a gorgeous backdrop to his gruff Welsh voice while the whole approach is far more rock orientated than the laid back acoustic feel of many of his recent releases. The opening title track is based on a conversation with a cab driver in the USA and includes a bit of a eulogy to Elvis. "I Have Come To Sing" has all the qualities of an anthem, with an almost worshipful feel to it. "Invisible Angel" and "Nobody Loves You Anymore" are more tender, and despite titles such as "The Fading Of The Light" and "Nobody Gets Everything", there is a real life-affirming feel to this set. There's no doubt that the Welsh songsmith is still moving forward in his writing and performance and, no matter how many of his albums you might already have in your collection, this one is an essential addition.

This album is incredible! The lyrical brilliance and tasteful production make it a must have for your C.D collection. You'd be struggling to find a better songwriter anywhere in the UK if not the world! Amazing stuff *********

Martyn Joseph is one of my all time favourite songwriters. His best songs have a mixture of pain, sadness and hope that is really encouraging. You can hear them again and again and they touch you every time. This cd is very good (especially the song 'kindness') but I think the album before (Deep blue) it is even better.
