Boy singer Matthew was discovered when his beautiful voice was heard singing along in the audience to the visiting male voice choir. John Buchanan, the leader of the Moray Male Voice Choir, encouraged him to join the choir and develop his singing. Paul Gardiner at Peterhead was contacted and he produced this CD for the young man. Matthew sings 12 traditional hymns, all arranged in a country style by Gardiner. The songs are mostly American gospel classics. "Mansion Over The Hill" was recorded by Elvis Presley and "Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Saviour" and "Precious Memories" have been recorded too many times to mention. The album begins with a hymn with words and music by Matthew's mother, which is a nice tribute to her. Matthew's pure, clear voice is always spot-on in tune and with crystal clear enunciation for such a young singer, this is a confident and enjoyable performance and one that bodes well for his future.
