This delicious slice of dance vibrancy calls upon decades of funky R&B disco and black groove music, adds some hip-hop on some cuts and wraps it around with house ranging from pop to deep to deeper. And our hero even sounds Jamaican on the romping opener "Peace Love-N-Happiness" where he runs over the fringe benefits of knowing the Lord. "Be Free" is a pumped up acknowledgement that freedom only comes from Jesus while "Sing Amen" is a turbo-charged hymn of thankfulness. For those who want a bit of hip house or a couple more underground mixes Maximillian does the business with them as well. If all this sounds like the singer/rapper/producer is covering too many bases to possibly make a coherent album, fear not, 'Deeper Than Most' works as a whole as well as in part, if you know what I mean. With the wonderful AJ Mora album and now this it seems N-Soul have returned to top line creative form and with DJ Coopoid already playing several cuts from 'Deeper Than Most' I'd recommend sanctified deejays everywhere to follow suit.
