Another stunning concept album from the most gifted of singer/songwriters.  There's probably no other contemporary songwriter who would compose songs inspired by whole books of the Old Testament and such is Mr Card's consumate songwriting craft that he succeeds. Taking us from "Genesis" (the title track) through to Moses ("A Face That Shone") the songs range from resplendent, joyous anthems with full symphonic trappings to the simplest of Don Fogelberg-style acoustic ballads. Always, Michael's unfaltering fusion of haunting melody and richly biblical imagery feeds the aesthetic sense and the spirit. In church a churchage, when we often settle for easily digested pap in our gospel songs, here's a man who can breathe poetic life into deep, deep theology.  Utterly lacking street cred, Michael has something greater, an anointed ministry.

This CCM Vet continues to write those ccm collectable
Bible songs. This recording contains the highly favourable "Jubilee"; just luv this song immensely!
Thank you Michael! Michael also sings this on his "Front Row" live vhs recording. I remember when I heard "They Called Him Laughter" play on ccm radio.
Another historical ccm song!: of course it's all about Abraham's son Issac. It's hard to believe that this project is over 20 years of age! The 1983 Legacy song "GOD Will Provide" is also included; kinda goes hand in hand with afore mentioned song. This newly recorded version is beautifully done and you will note that Michael's vocals are not as high in octave as on the original. I just love "Asleep on Holy Ground";it tells about Jacob's dream: one of my favorite passages. This whole recording has got to be at the top of one of Michael's finest, again, thank you Michael: we are blessed by your GOD-given songs!
GO Bless! - Don
